The 'before' is a dated 2010s-era brochure template — light theme, hero carousel with a stock photo of a person in a Milltech polo, a generic 'one stop shop' tagline, and no industry verticals at all.

The starting point
Milltech Precision Engineering is a Norwich-based CNC sub-contractor. The shop machines parts for twelve industry verticals — aerospace, defence, EV and automotive, hydrogen, hydraulics, marine, medical, oil & gas, optical, renewables, subsea, and food manufacturing equipment. The capability spans 3, 4 and 5-axis milling, CNC turning, full product assembly, and a dedicated valves and manifolds facility running 24/7. Quality control is integrated end-to-end via a Tricorn ERP manufacturing control system. The business operates to ISO 9001:2015, and ships 95% of packaging in recyclable, renewable or biodegradable form.
None of which was reflected on the website before 2022.
The pre-rebuild Milltech site was a dated 2010s-era brochure template — the kind that was common across UK precision-engineering shops at the time. The Wayback Machine snapshot from June 2021 — visible on the slider above — shows what was there: a light-theme hero carousel with a stock photo of a person in a Milltech-branded polo, a red “Welcome To Milltech” headline, the “one stop shop for Subcontract, Precision Machining & Assembly” tagline, a simple horizontal navigation, and a “Welcome to the home of Milltech Precision” body section. No industry verticals. No certifications display. No SEO foundation. No services structure. The operational depth of a Norwich CNC shop competing for aerospace and defence contracts was invisible to anyone landing on the site.
The brief was straightforward and similar to Adaero’s: build a website that matches the operation. Make the verticals legible. Make the certifications visible. Make the procurement-readiness signals findable on first scroll.
This was an in-group project rather than a freelance one — Milltech sat inside the same group of companies I was working across at the time, so the project came together through internal planning sessions across a few weeks.
The verticals-led architecture
The single biggest structural decision was leading with industry verticals rather than machining capabilities.
Most precision-engineering websites are organised around what the shop does: a “Capabilities” page that lists milling, turning, 5-axis, assembly. That structure is logical for engineers but wrong for procurement buyers, who arrive asking “do you machine for my industry, with my supply-chain requirements?”
The new Milltech site is organised to answer that question first. The Industries navigation surfaces twelve specific verticals, each with its own dedicated page:
- Aerospace — flight-critical components, supply-chain-ready
- Defence — sensitive applications, accreditation-led
- EV and automotive — battery housings, drive components
- Food manufacturing equipment — hygiene-spec, stainless-led
- Hydraulics — pressure-tested components
- Hydrogen — emerging fuel-cell and storage applications
- Marine — corrosion-resistant materials, environmental tolerance
- Medical — biocompatible specifications, tight tolerances
- Oil & gas — high-pressure, harsh-environment components
- Optical — precision mounts and housings
- Renewables — wind, solar and tidal supply chain
- Subsea — extreme-pressure environments
A procurement officer from an EV company lands on the EV vertical page, sees the relevant component types and material grades, and understands within thirty seconds that Milltech is a credible supplier for their job. The machining capabilities (milling, turning, assembly, valves & manifolds) still live on the site — they sit one level down under Capabilities, where they belong as the technical detail rather than the headline.
Treating manufacturing control as a trust asset
A subtle but important decision: the Tricorn ERP manufacturing control system got promoted from operational footnote to trust signal.
Most CNC sub-contractors run a manufacturing control system of some kind. Few mention it on their website. Milltech does — there’s a dedicated Manufacturing Control page explaining how the Tricorn ERP integrates quotation, materials, machining operations, quality control, and invoice into one real-time view of every job in the facility.
For a procurement buyer evaluating sub-contractors, this is exactly the kind of detail that separates serious suppliers from hobbyist shops. “Real-time visibility from quote to invoice” signals operational maturity in a way that no amount of capability listing can. The competitor sub-contractors who run similar systems but don’t talk about them are leaving that trust signal unused.
Sustainability — surfacing what was already true
The 95% recyclable/renewable/biodegradable packaging figure was something the business was already doing — but the previous site never mentioned it. The new build treats it as a small but real differentiator, particularly relevant for buyers in aerospace, EV, and food manufacturing where supply-chain environmental requirements are increasingly part of the procurement brief.
The sustainability page also covers operational commitments around materials sourcing and energy use. Not greenwashing — just making visible what was already operationally true.
The certifications
ISO 9001:2015 is the quality management standard most precision-engineering buyers will require before issuing a purchase order. The old Milltech site mentioned it in passing. The new site treats it as part of the procurement-readiness signal — prominent in the trust strip, with the certificate downloadable, and the implications explained on a dedicated Quality page.
The certifications page also covers the company’s Mission, Vision and Values, the Corporate Policies (modern-slavery statement, anti-bribery policy, etc.) and the Sustainability commitments. None of these drive traffic directly. All of them help close the buyers who do arrive — particularly buyers in defence and aerospace who need to file supplier-due-diligence paperwork before issuing an order.
The hero — clarity over cleverness
The hero copy on the new site reads:

Unfussy. Tells the visitor in one line what Milltech does, where (UK), and what their value to a project is. The kind of copy that competitor sub-contractors with longer hero treatments wouldn’t think is strong enough — but for a buyer on a phone scanning ten supplier sites in twenty minutes, clear beats clever every time.
The supporting line is the operational positioning: “Your Project – Our Precision.” Short, ownable, repeatable across the marketing materials.
Below the hero, the trust strip surfaces the operational depth: ISO 9001:2015 badge, the Tricorn ERP control system note, the 24-48 hour quote turnaround, the 4,500 square-foot valves & manifolds facility running 24/7. Each fact earns its place — they’re the things a procurement reader needs to know in the first ten seconds.
What’s under the bonnet
The build runs on WordPress with a custom theme, hosted on a UK Apache-based setup. The CMS choice was right because Milltech’s internal team needed to maintain twelve industry pages, four capability pages, and the regular updates to certifications, news, and policies without a developer in the loop every time. A modern static framework would have been faster but would have locked content updates behind a developer — the wrong trade-off for a client of this size with ongoing content maintenance needs.
The site’s information architecture matters more than the underlying stack here. Twelve well-written industry pages with proper internal linking to capability pages, certifications, and contact form do more for ranking and conversion than any single technical decision about hosting or framework.
What this case study is really about
Norwich precision engineering doesn’t get the same digital attention as London or the Midlands, but the actual operations are often more interesting. Milltech is a serious CNC sub-contractor with twelve verticals, four core capabilities, a real ERP-driven manufacturing control system, and the certifications to play in defence and aerospace supply chains. The previous website implied a small regional shop. The new one reveals what’s actually there.
The pattern holds across the precision engineering category: the business is usually more interesting than the website suggests. The website’s job is to stop hiding it.
